Frozen Black Cod

The black cod (Anoplopoma fimbria) is considered one of the most prized fish in the world. It is highly prized for its white, tender flesh, so tender that, as the Americans say, it melts in your mouth. For this characteristic it is also called butterfish.

The black cod is a wild fish that lives in the North Pacific Ocean, in waters 300 metres deep and below. Adult specimens can reach depths of up to 1800 metres. It is a fatty, omega-3 rich fish that feeds on small crustaceans (krill) and cephalopods.

Aloia Foods’ black cod is hooked in the Gulf of Alaska and the Bering Sea and frozen on board. Freezing on board allows the best possible preservation of the nutritional properties.

The black cod is also available MSC certified.

Cooking tips

Black Cod with miso

Miso-glazed black cod is the Japanese recipe with which this fantastic fish has become world famous. In fact, with miso, the black cod becomes softer and, when cooked, flakes to reveal its very white scales. Black cod has a rich, heady flavour due to its high fat content.
